“Speed interviewing” and the concepts supporting it come directly from the social phenomena known as “speed dating.” Supported by lots of cognitive research that suggests initial intuition is as accurate as or more accurate than prolonged assessment, a few leading-edge organizations are hopping on board and testing speed interviewing as a possible solution to end the giant disconnect between society today and the HR systems of yesterday.

Brave corporate pioneers include such firms as IBM, Abbott Labs, PNC Financial, Travelodge, Texas Instruments, the Salt River Project, and RBC.

“I am so pleased to recognize the 20 Power Pathway graduates for their hard work and resilience during difficult economic times here in Kern County.

I want to thank PG&E and the KCCD for their commitment to enhancing economic development in our community,” said Perez.

“I want to thank everybody that was a part of the Power Pathway program, everyone I met and had contact with,” said Burrell, who was joined at the graduation ceremony by his wife Marie, along with his mother-in-law and grandmother.

Kern County Supervisor Leticia Perez was also on hand to congratulate the graduates.

The program relies on collaboration with local partners, including community colleges and workforce investment boards to provide training.

Nearly 800 men and women have graduated from the program — including 400 veterans.

With the course now completed, Denise Newton, senior manager of PG&E’s Kern Division, said the hope is that these students are able to find gainful employment that will allow them to contribute to the local Kern County economy.
