Play steam offline without updating

I'm temporally on super slow broadband at my parents and want to play a game I got now, not in 10hours :-/ Thanks Answer would be - it depends.

Try starting Steam in offline mode and then launch the game - and see if it works If you have the actual disc, or a Steam backup disc, then yes.

Once a Steam game is installed, you can go to your Steam library, right-click the game's name, choose Properties, click the Updates tab, and change the Automatic Updates dropdown to "Do not automatically update this game." It's a good idea to go into Offline mode before doing this, or launching Steam while not connected to a network so that it doesn't start downloading the update automatically.

If you’re performed these steps, Steam’s offline mode should now work without any problems until the next time you tell Steam to go online.

If you didn’t perform the above steps, Steam should prompt you to enable offline mode if it can’t connect to Steam’s servers.

Unfortunately, this approach won’t work for most games – but it’s worth a try if Steam’s offline mode isn’t working for you.

Is is possible to install a steam game and then play it without having to download a huge update file?

To successfully complete the update, you need to temporarily disable real-time antivirus protection.

After applying the Steam update, you can turn real-time protection back on.

First, I know this isn't steam forums, but I like the community and maybe you could help me.

I bought Broken Sword trilogy for my girlfriend, and made a steam account for her.

It's something about her pc cause cause it sais that it can't connect to the net despite of being able to use the browser and download things without a problem. It could be that your issue is related to the problem on Steam where you sometimes lose your connection to the Steam client, even if your connection is stable and works otherwise fine (not talking about maintenances or the usual technical issues). When you click on net management (I don't know how that thing is called in English), it's says something like the wifi doesn't give permission to conect, though she can use internet without a problem. I was wondering if there was anyway to dodge that updating problem.
